Polygon Gets Regulated Payments via Coinme

Polygon Labs announced Wednesday, Oct. 14, that it has finalized its acquisition of Coinme, giving its payments business regulatory coverage across 48 U.S. states through 37 state money transmitter licenses and 11 applicable exemptions. The business is also registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money services business.

The acquisition represents a significant step in Polygon’s strategy to connect blockchain-based payments with traditional financial infrastructure, allowing businesses to move money between banks, payment networks, and stablecoins through a unified platform.

Polygon’s Open Money Stack (OMS) combines digital wallets, payment routing, blockchain settlement, and banking integrations. The company says the platform allows businesses to manage the full lifecycle of a payment, from accepting fiat currency through bank transfers, cards, or cash deposits to settling transactions onchain and distributing funds in local currencies.

Rather than requiring businesses to maintain separate relationships with multiple infrastructure providers, Polygon—an Ethereum scaling network—aims to consolidate these functions through a single integration. The company also identified Tazapay, Mesh, Toku, and Kira as among the first businesses adopting the platform.

Tazapay, which serves more than 1,000 enterprises and fintech companies across over 30 countries, is integrating Polygon’s wallet and fiat conversion infrastructure to streamline cross-border transactions. Mesh, a crypto payments network connecting more than 300 wallets, exchanges and financial services, is adding Polygon’s fiat on-ramp capabilities to expand funding options for digital asset transactions.

Meanwhile, global payroll provider Toku is using Polygon’s wallet and payout infrastructure to help workers receive stablecoin payments and convert their earnings into local currencies. Kira, an AI-powered financial services platform, is integrating OMS to expand stablecoin access alongside U.S. banking services, including ACH, Fedwire, and Fednow payments.

The announcement underscores Polygon’s growing emphasis on payments infrastructure as blockchain companies seek to capture a larger share of traditional financial activity.

By combining Coinme’s regulated U.S. payments operations with existing blockchain technology, Polygon is positioning itself as an infrastructure provider for businesses looking to incorporate stablecoins without building their own banking and compliance integrations.
