OpenAI has expanded its advertising platform, ChatGPT Ads, to seven new Asian markets, bringing the overall availability of the program to more than 60 countries. The rollout includes Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
Platform Access and Ad Distribution
Advertisers can access ChatGPT Ads through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team, third-party technology partners, and agency partners including dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe, and WPP. Eligible businesses can also access the platform through a self-service Ads Manager.
According to the company, advertisements will appear exclusively for users on the Free and Go subscription plans. Higher-tier subscriptions, including Plus, Pro, and Enterprise, will remain ad-free.
“Our expansion into more markets across Asia brings that opportunity to businesses of every size, from global brands looking for new ways to grow to entrepreneurs and startups running their first campaign,” Dave Dugan, vice president and head of Global Ads Solutions at OpenAI, said in a statement.
Privacy Policies and Financial Performance
OpenAI stated that its ad model keeps user conversations private from advertisers and does not sell customer data. Advertisements are labeled separately from generated answers and do not affect the output provided by ChatGPT.
E-commerce platform Shopee confirmed it is extending its existing ad collaboration with OpenAI into Southeast Asia and Taiwan following a previous launch in Brazil, according to Peggy Zhu, executive director of brand and growth marketing at Shopee.
The regional expansion follows OpenAI’s announcement at the end of August that ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate within 200 days of launch.
