The X account of Cubaā€™s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been locked following accusations of promoting and rug-pulling multiple Solana-based memecoins.

Speculation spread on Monday after the account appeared to promote a token called ā€œCUBA,ā€ leading some to believe the Cuban government was involved in the memecoin frenzy. The hype around memecoins has gained traction recently, especially after Donald Trump-related tokens surged.Ā

The CUBA token reportedly reached a $30 million market cap before collapsing. Additionally, two other tokensā€”dubbed ā€œCuba Coin 2.0ā€ and ā€œJustice for Cuba Coinā€ā€”allegedly launched and failed within 24 hours.

Screenshots circulating online also show a token called ā€œCUBA 4.0,ā€ further fueling speculation about potential hacking involvement.

Sorry from $CUBA

The Ministryā€™s X account briefly acknowledged ā€œdifficultiesā€ with its page before being deleted. An X Space titled ā€œSorry from $CUBA,ā€ hosted by the account, featured an apology from someone claiming to represent the Cuban government.

The host initially denied any wrongdoing but reportedly later exclaimed, ā€œHere we gooo, come on letā€™s go, a million MC!ā€ before the Space was deleted, according to Protos.

DEX Screener data shows the initial CUBA token saw $158.7 million in trading volume and currently holds a $2.1 million market cap.

While the Cuban government has not issued an official statement, the Ministryā€™s X account remains disabled, leaving the situation unresolved.
