The X account of Cubaās Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been locked following accusations of promoting and rug-pulling multiple Solana-based memecoins.
Speculation spread on Monday after the account appeared to promote a token called āCUBA,ā leading some to believe the Cuban government was involved in the memecoin frenzy. The hype around memecoins has gained traction recently, especially after Donald Trump-related tokens surged.Ā
The CUBA token reportedly reached a $30 million market cap before collapsing. Additionally, two other tokensādubbed āCuba Coin 2.0ā and āJustice for Cuba Coināāallegedly launched and failed within 24 hours.
Screenshots circulating online also show a token called āCUBA 4.0,ā further fueling speculation about potential hacking involvement.
Sorry from $CUBA
The Ministryās X account briefly acknowledged ādifficultiesā with its page before being deleted. An X Space titled āSorry from $CUBA,ā hosted by the account, featured an apology from someone claiming to represent the Cuban government.
The host initially denied any wrongdoing but reportedly later exclaimed, āHere we gooo, come on letās go, a million MC!ā before the Space was deleted, according to Protos.
DEX Screener data shows the initial CUBA token saw $158.7 million in trading volume and currently holds a $2.1 million market cap.
While the Cuban government has not issued an official statement, the Ministryās X account remains disabled, leaving the situation unresolved.
