Maya, a licensed digital bank and crypto exchange in the Philippines, announced it will temporarily suspend its cryptocurrency trading services for 24 hours starting Tuesday evening to implement a major platform upgrade.
The maintenance period is scheduled to begin on December 9 at 9:00 PM and conclude on December 10 at 9:00 PM. During this time, the “Crypto” section of the Maya app will be inaccessible to users.

In an advisory, the fintech company stated the downtime is necessary to roll out a “fresh new look” designed to provide a “faster, more simplified experience” for its growing user base. Maya assured customers that all funds and past purchases remain safe during the transition.
History of Glitches and Downtime
This scheduled maintenance follows a series of technical hurdles that have plagued the platform’s crypto services over the last year.
Most notably, Maya faced a significant pricing glitch in late 2024 where the USD Coin (USDC) stablecoin was erroneously listed for ₱1.00 instead of its actual market value (approx. ₱56 at that time). The error allowed traders to buy the stablecoin at a massive discount. (Read More: [Exclusive] Maya Demands Users Return Crypto Profit After ₱1 per USDC Price Error)
The platform has also struggled with prolonged, unscheduled downtimes. In June 2024, Maya’s crypto feature went offline for an extended period, preventing users from selling or transferring their assets. A similar issue occurred in August 2025 during a market rally, leaving users unable to take profit as Bitcoin surged past higher levels.
Users also cannot transfer in and out of the crypto they bought within the Maya platform.
Strategic Push into Digital Assets

Despite these technical challenges, the upgrade marks the latest development in Maya’s aggressive expansion into the digital asset space. As previously reported by BitPinas, Maya (formerly PayMaya) launched its crypto feature in April 2022, operating as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) licensed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
On the digital bank front, Maya recently bagged the “Best Digital Bank” award, which it has now received for three consecutive years. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently tapped Maya to bring digital payments to the agency’s “Egov App”.
Users are advised to complete any urgent transactions before the scheduled downtime on Monday night.
